Why Choose Wooden Boxes and Crates?

Written by admin on April 3rd, 2013

Why would one choose a wooden box over a cardboard box? For shipping costs, the cardboard box is definitely in the lead being lighter in weight. The difference is really in the durability and aesthetic of the box. Wooden boxes and crates are far more durable, keeping the contents safe during shipping.  Wooden boxes are often recycled or kept as keepsakes. Wooden boxes also make a nice presentation for special gifts, wine and foods such as cheese, jams, fruit and smoked meat.

Wooden boxes can also be used in retail as point of purchase displays. Boxes can be personalized by being branded or using laser engraving.  Boxes and crates can be made from a wide variety of wood but pine tends to be the wood species most used because it is light, attractive and inexpensive.

Consider using wooden boxes or crates for shipping or storing your next gift!

Large and Small Wood Dowels

Large wooden dowels

What are some of the uses of wood dowels? Large wooden dowels have a variety of uses. They can be used as flag poles, poles for signs, wood handles, broom sticks, walking canes, banner dowels and tool handles. While handles, mop and broom sticks are also made by plastic, wood is definitely the choice for durability and strength.

Small wooden dowels

Small wooden dowels have everyday uses. They are used in the beauty and food industries.  Skewers are used for shish kebabs (the word “shish” is actually a Turkish word that means “skewer”) and candy sticks such as candy apple and lollipop sticks. They are also used as manicure sticks and knitting needles.

While there is a large variety of wood species that can be used to construct dowels, hardwood and softwood, small diameter dowels used for skewers are generally made from birch wood which has no taste and doesn’t splinter.
